After an awesome time in Slovakia, an overnight bus ride to Munich was next! Flix bus was pretty comfortable but I did not account for the sudden drop in Temperature across the entirety of Europe (dropped from an average of 35 to 22 degrees)! So it was a pretty chilly ride for the 12 hours ;(
After arriving, I managed to find my way to Aunty Eva’s (a close family friend for many years) place some 20 minutes from Munich central. As I had never been in Munich (unlike the rest of my family), I was stunned by how awesome their place was! After a long overdue catch-up with Aunty Eva, Uncle Tobias & August (and some dope German breakfast), we started refining the plan for the next 5 days, which involved some high-level hike planning HAHA
Day 1 involved some golfing (I had my first attempt at golf ever) and heading to the English Gardens near central Munich to catch the World Cup game between Sweden & Germany at a traditional German Beerhall. My expectations were completely surpassed, as the atmosphere there was insane (as was the 1.5-liter beer & glass HAHA)! The game ended with Toni Kroos smashing in a winning goal with the last kick of the game so naturally, everyone went insane with celebrations all over the beerhall. I’ve never seen so much beer flying everywhere in my life.
Day 2 was the day of the much-awaited HIKE! Aunty Eva, Uncle Tobias and I drove about 1.5 hours out of Munich to some mountain ranges where we began our 4-hour hike (8 hours for both ways). While it might sound exhausting, it was really really enjoyable with the scenic views, chatting with my amazing hosts and the incredible 20-degree weather! The view from the top was soooo worth it. To make things better, there was a little café just below the peak where we enjoyed some AMAZING German beer, schnapps and deserts. After heading back home, i was invited by August to play football with some mates of his, which I could never say no to. Pretty damn special to have a chance to play football in Germany with the locals 🙂
Day 3 was mostly spent on a bus tour of Hitler’s old eagle nest (bunker in the mountains) where we were supposed to be treated with an incredible view. HOWEVER, the clouds had decided to cover everything that day so all we had was fog! Despite this disappointment, the bunker itself was highly informative and I made some friends all the way from the state of Arkansas & California 🙂 The evening was just as fun as I got to bar-hop with August and his mates (who I got to know pretty well) around Munich!
Day 4 & 5 was mostly sightseeing with places around Munich city. I managed to sneak in a trip to the historic Allianz Arena (home to Bayern Munich) and a visit to Dachau Concentration Camp (to learn & pay my respects). It was a very emotional and humbling place (the camp), so all I will say is that one should pay it a visit if they get the chance.
So many amazing memories and activities. It was really so hard to leave my lovely hosts. Munich was magical indeed 😀
