Austin! The next stage in my U.S. trip began with leaving the East Coast and heading to Texas. My aunt picked me up from the Airport (awesome) and we headed back to the house. Felt good to finally be in a house after more than 2 months of travelling. The Indian food that my aunt had made for me was even more awesome (one thing you really miss when travelling). As i was gonna be in Austin for the next 2 weeks, it was time to take it easy. For the next few days it was mostly just following my aunt around the area as she drove, chilling in the house (there was so much to watch with netflix & hulu as well as the comfy sofa that made you never want to get up). After a few days of this, i decided to head out into downtown Austin (we were in a suburb). There wasn’t much access but thankfully the bus service was pretty prompt. First on the list was the Capitol building of Texas where the State Legislature was housed. After visiting the U.S. legislature, i was pretty excited to see an individual state’s legislature. It was pretty massive and the exterior was completely made out of red granite which gave it a unique look. It had a version of the Goddess of Liberty on the top of the Dome which held a star (Texas is called the lone star state). The inside was simply spectacular and the guide that took us around the capitol was very well-informed. It gave a glimpse into the history of the state as well as the many challenges she faced over the years. After the tour, i walked throughout the building and luckily the house of representatives were in session, so i was able to witness that! Following the session, i spent some time exploring the capitol grounds which had many sculptures and monuments to highlight the state’s history. Next on the list was a Disney art exhibition (that my friend Zakee told me about) further up north. It was relatively small but the artwork was really good. Originally, i was supposed to head back home after the exhibition but i realised i was about 1.8 miles from the nearest In-N-Out Burger joint. It seemed like quite a distance for a burger but the weather was so good (no humidity) that it became an enjoyable walk. The burger was as good as the hype and i honestly think it was better than Shake Shack! This concluded the day and pretty much sums up my first few days in Austin. Loving it so far!
