Climate March

On the third day in D.C., i had the honour to join in the Climate March! The issue of Climate has always been a real thing but it never got more dangerous when people in power turn a blind eye and go out of their way to deny it. So, Borrowing a sign from my sister (Thanks Akka!), i attended the march! So the day began with checking into my new hostel (super awesome), and finding my way to the march start point in front of Capitol Hill. Turns out, it was pretty easy to find my way to the start point as there were so many people going to the march, so all i had to do was follow the crowd. There were so many people in the march, all with such inventive and hilarious signs! There were 8 different contingents of marches, each with a different message. The march was put together so well, with the various contingents so that people were organised in marching, organisers making sure water and food was accessible, water more importantly as we were in the hot sun for hours! People were so nice during the march, being friendly enough to make interesting conversations with as well as allowing me to take photos of them and their signs. The march went from Capitol Hill, to around the White House and eventually ended at the Washington Monument where there were speeches to rally and call attention to the Climate change cause. Washington D.C. was the perfect place for a march due to the various statues and buildings that highlighted how this was an essential part of democracy , such as the start point where the building had the First Amendment (freedom of speech and assembly) on the building itself. A highly appropriate stop on the tour was the Trump Hotel as it rilled people up to see it on the route (which was probably by design). It was pretty spectacular to see as many us 200,00 (estimated numbers) coming out to let their voices be heard and show/speak truth to power. It was an amazing experience and i was so happy/thrilled to be able to march and do my part for the environment. Time to Act not Deny!

After the march (which was about 6 hours), i raced back to the hostel to change and head out to meet my sisters. However, as i was getting ready i met my roommate in the bunk and he was so interesting. His name was Justin and we had such a nice chat about politics, race, the differences in our countries and so on. Was really interesting learning about his life and his travels as well. This is the best part about hostels, meeting new and interesting people! Luckily tho, i was not too late despite talking with Justin. After dinner with my sisters, we headed over to a farewell party for one of my sister’s (Amrietha) apartment roommate. I was pretty nervous at first HAHA. Katy (sister’s roommate) was so nice, as was everyone there who had never met me before. Everyone was so interesting /funny with stories about their lives and it was just a really good time. Katy’s fiance was an USAF Pilot and as such, i had to ask him all about his military life in the states and we ended up exchanging stories which was another highlight of the evening. It was such a good night and such a good end to a day i will never forget.
