NYC Solo Style

One of the major things i had really wanted to do was catch some of my favourite TV show tapings in NYC. Before this i was completely unsuccessful in getting any tickets for any show. However, my luck turned on Sunday night as i got tickets to the Daily Show with Trevor Noah (on Monday) and The View (On Tuesday)!!

I spent Monday exploring central park, visiting the Central Park Zoo, the Sheep Meadow (a huge open area in the park) and various statues in the park. As i had to be in line at the Daily Show by 430pm , i didn’t have that much time to explore . Thankfully, my hostel was near the park. The wait for the Daily Show was slightly long but i managed to get the best seats in the studio as i was right in front of where Trevor would be doing the show. Before the show started one of the show’s joke-writers came out to excite the crowd with a small stand-up comedy act which was really funny. After about 30 minutes of that, TREVOR NOAH APPEARED!!! It was so surreal to see him in person after only ever seeing him on TV. We had a short Q&A with him and the show eventually started. As this episode involved Desi Lydic (a correspondent) we got to see her too!!! All in all it was pretty awesome as Trevor interacted with us in between takes and shared with us how he felt on the various issues he had commented on during his time on the show. The last awesome part was that because Gov John Kasich was a guest on the show, i got to see him as well! I was clearly in favour of Hilary Clinton winning the overall election but i liked Gov John Kasich and wanted him to win the Republican Primary so it was pretty cool to get to see him in person as well. That was pretty much the first day.

The second day involved an early start as i had to be in line for The View by 830am. Eventually, after some waiting outside the building, i was seated inside to wait for the show to start (but it was much better than waiting outside). This was where i met some incredible people. First it was this 27 year old Nigerian Lady who was so widely travelled and had so many interesting stories. Second was this elderly couple who were 80 and 78 years old but it was impossible to guess that as they looked like they were in their 60s. They had the most incredible life you’d ever hear. While raising 6 children, they were foster parents to 42 kids!! Over the course of their lives they took in so many kids and at great personal cost, the natured and help raise those kids. They had stories after stories which made me just more and more awestruck as they really made a huge impact in so many kid’s lives. Eventually, we were all seated inside the studio and just like the Daily Show there was a comedian to excite us before the hosts came out. And once again, seeing the hosts, like legendary Whoopi Goldberg, was pretty surreal. Gov Kasich came on the show again so i got see him twice in two days! HAHA. Kelly Osbourne was a second guest, who i had not known much about but it was quite interesting hearing her story. Both guests were there to discuss the ideas in their books and soooooo, everyone in the audience received a copy  of each book for free! So i walked out of the show with two new books!!!!! I had intended to go to brooklyn and walk across the bridge but it had started to rain so heavily i just decided to skip that. The rest of the day involved seeing the Bull of Wall Street and having a milkshake at Black Tap Restauarnt. Seeing the Bull was pretty cool as it was a pretty big landmark that represented Wall Street. The milkshake at Black Tap was so huge and delicious that it is an absolute must have when visiting NYC! And so my travels in the Big Apple for this trip was at an end and it was time for me to bid farewell to NYC ad say hello to Washington D.C.!
