Once we arrived, we were so happy to see snow again. There was just something about snow for me that made me so happy. Perhaps it was because this trip was the first time i got see snow!
Our airbnb host, Esa was early and already waiting for us. Off to a good start! He showed us around the city center and eventually drove us to the apartment we rented. It was so freaking awesome, hands-down the best place we stayed in through the entire trip. The house was so big, with so much space. A fully-functioning kitchen, tv that could play any type of television files and a market that was 2 min walk away. The best part was that it was completely private. We were so overjoyed. Throughout the four days, we mostly stayed in the accommodation and our host showed us around the area and took us for activities (which i will talk about in the next post). Rovaniemi was similar to St Petersburg in that it was more chill and relaxing rather than the 12-13 hour days.We cooked most meals and that made it very affordable. We usually walked to the market in our slippers in shorts, which was quite fun as snow blanketed the entire area.
Salmon was cheap (compared to Singapore), so we bought one kilo at a time to cook and share. Before this, i had no cooking experience so it was really fun for me to cook. Started to see the fun in it! Rovaniemi and Finland in general seemed very slow-paced and relaxed compared to the speed of life we are used to in Singapore. This made for such a relaxing environment. I completely understand why Finland was one of the best places to live!
