The elusive cherry on the cake that we were looking for to cap our amazing trip. I had not had high hopes for spotting the lights so as to avoid disappointment. The second night (first night was too cloudy), we decided to do a full night out camping in the laavu by the lake (mentioned in the earlier post). We bought snacks, an 18-pack of Finnish beer, borrowed Esa’s tripod, torchlights, etc. Isa supplied us with firewood so we could keep warm and joined us with his dog for a while. We stayed there till around 3am by which time we were freezing. At the start it was pretty fun just sitting around the fire and relaxing, chilling our beer by simply putting it in the snow and just having fun chilling. Eventually, the cold started to get to us, sapping our energy and willpower. At around 3am we called it quits as it was just not meant to be that night. The third night, we decided going to the laavu was way too much effort and expensive (cab ride back was not cheap). So we simply walked out to a nearby hill that had a wide open area (the place i bashed and got stuck in the earlier post) and tried to spot the lights. To our surprise we actually managed to see some! It was not to bright at first but we still saw them. Sheng yang and me raced back to the apartment to get the camera and tripod so we could capture pictures. The photos were nice, the lights got slightly brighter by the end but eventually died out as the cloud cover eventually killed it. Still, we were overjoyed to catch some of the lights. The next night however, was a whole new level. The lights were so bright we saw the green lights without any effort at all. The sky was just filled with green. The real stunning part that gave us goosebumps was when there was a huge explosion of colour! The lights suddenly became so bright and moved so fast in the sky. We caught shades of purple and even the rare red lights! It was so magical and beautiful that i literally stood there stunned for a few seconds before i got on the camera to take pictures. The rest of the night was just as awesome as we managed to catch shades of purple and green just constantly lit us the sky. It was just so stunning, no words can ever convey what we were privileged to see. No words at all.
